Dota 2 MMR Calculator: How Many Games to Rank Up?
A Dota 2 MMR calculator estimates the games needed to reach your target rating from your current MMR, win rate and average gains and losses. This free tool also converts that pace into playing days. Enter your own numbers above, then use the examples below to understand what the results mean.

How to use the Dota 2 MMR calculator
MMR means Matchmaking Rating. For this calculator, use the rating shown in Dota 2, rather than guessing from your badge. The Dota 2 ranks and MMR table gives estimated medal targets, but a custom number works too.
01 · Set your MMR gapEnter your current rating and choose a higher target. One star is enough for a useful first checkpoint.
02 · Enter your averagesUse a recent ranked sample for win rate. Under “Edit averages,” set your actual MMR gained per win and lost per loss.
03 · Choose a daily paceEnter the number of games you can play consistently. The result counts playing days, not days off.
If you play only on certain days, treat the result as playing days. For example, 20 playing days at four sessions a week span five calendar weeks. The calculator does not know your work schedule. Or when your stack finally gets online.
Dota 2 MMR calculation example: 3,200 to 3,850 MMR
At a 60% win rate with +25 MMR per win and −25 per loss, a 650 MMR climb projects to 130 games. At 3 games a day, that is about 44 playing days. The 3,850 target is our estimated Ancient 1 entry point.
Starting rating3,200 MMR
Ancient 1 estimate3,850 MMR| Calculation | Numbers | Result |
|---|---|---|
| MMR remaining | 3,850 − 3,200 | 650 MMR |
| Average MMR per game | (60% × 25) − (40% × 25) | +5 MMR |
| Projected games | 650 ÷ 5 | 130 games |
| Playing days | 130 ÷ 3, rounded up | 44 days |
The formula is average MMR per game = (win rate × win gain) − (loss rate × loss cost). Use rates as decimals: 60% becomes 0.6. Divide the MMR gap by that average, then round up to whole games. Round up again when converting games into days.
How Dota 2 win rate changes the games needed to rank up
A small win-rate change matters over a large sample. This table keeps the same 650 MMR gap, +25/−25 gains and 3 games per day. Only the assumed win rate changes.
| Win rate | MMR / game | Games | Playing days |
|---|---|---|---|
| 50% | 0 | No upward pace | — |
| 52% | +1 | 650 | 217 |
| 55% | +2.5 | 260 | 87 |
| 60% | +5 | 130 | 44 |
| 65% | +7.5 | 87 | 29 |
At 50% with equal gains and losses, the average change is zero. Playing more games at that same rate does not produce an upward estimate. Above 50%, the model moves upward, but real results still arrive in uneven streaks.
The tool’s bar chart keeps your starting MMR, target and average rewards fixed. A shorter bar means fewer projected games. Your entered win rate is highlighted, including a custom rate such as 57.5%. “No climb” means the average is not positive; it does not mean the target needs zero games. All finite bars share a scale starting at zero, so their lengths are directly comparable within that calculation.
How to calculate your Dota 2 ranked win rate
Divide ranked wins by ranked games, then multiply by 100. For example, 33 wins in 60 games gives 33 ÷ 60 × 100 = 55%. Enter 55 in the calculator. Include the losses in the game count; dividing wins by losses answers a different question.
Choose a sample that resembles the games you plan to queue next. If you mainly play offlane now, an old carry streak may be a poor guide. Keep the period and number of games in your notes. Five wins from five games is 100%, but it says very little about whether you can maintain that pace over another hundred.
Recalculate after another meaningful batch of ranked games. Update your current MMR first, then your win rate and average gains. Keep the target the same to see how much progress remains. Otherwise, changing every input at once makes it harder to tell what actually improved.
How many Dota 2 games does it take to reach Divine?
From 4,500 MMR, reaching the estimated Divine 1 threshold of 4,620 takes about 48 games at a 55% win rate and +25/−25 MMR. That projects to 16 playing days at 3 games per day.

- MMR gap
- 120
- Average / game
- +2.5
- Projected games
- 48
The gap is smaller than in the Ancient example, so it needs fewer games despite the lower win rate. Read the Dota 2 Divine rank guide for all five stars and neighboring ranks. These are estimated medal thresholds; the calculator is planning toward a number, not promising the exact game your badge changes.
Dota 2 MMR gains: what if a win gives more than a loss costs?
Equal gains and losses are just the default. Suppose your averages are +30 for a win and −25 for a loss. At 55% wins, the calculation becomes (0.55 × 30) − 0.45 × 25 = +5.25 MMR per game. The same 650 MMR gap then projects to 124 games, or 42 playing days.
The break-even win rate is loss cost ÷ (win gain + loss cost). In this example it is 45.45%. Below that rate the average points downward; above it the average points upward. Use the gains you actually see rather than assuming every Dota 2 match awards the same amount.
Dota 2 rank targets, calibration and MMR calculator limits
The main medal checkpoints used in these examples are below. Each comes from the same estimated dataset as the calculator’s target picker. The complete Dota 2 MMR rank list also includes Herald, Guardian, Crusader and Archon.
Valve describes rank and Rank Confidence in its New Frontiers matchmaking explanation. This tool does not reproduce that rating system or predict calibration. If your gains are changing quickly, update the inputs after another batch of ranked games.
For a practical next step, try the free focus check in our Dota 2 Rank Up Playbook. Pick one area to work on, then recalculate using your actual results. A higher number in the win-rate field makes a nicer graph. It does not win the lane for you.
Dota 2 MMR calculator FAQ
Can this Dota 2 MMR calculator find my hidden MMR?
No. It calculates scenarios from the rating and averages you enter. It does not connect to Steam, read matches or uncover a hidden rating. You can use it without creating an account.
Does the Dota 2 MMR calculator predict a guaranteed rank-up date?
No. It divides the gap by a steady average. Match order, changing win rates and different MMR rewards can move the result. Projected games are a planning estimate, not a simulation of when you first cross the target.
Can I calculate the MMR needed for Dota 2 Immortal?
You can enter a custom MMR goal and calculate the gap. This tool does not turn an Immortal leaderboard position into an MMR requirement. Use the in-game ranking and the official Dota 2 leaderboards for leaderboard context.
Examples reviewed September 18, 2026. All scenarios use the same calculation as the tool above. Inputs are illustrative assumptions; rank thresholds are community estimates.
