Why pick Dragon Knight?
Pick Dragon Knight when your team needs a durable initiator, a lane anchor, and a hero who can pressure buildings safely in Dragon Form.

Durable dragon knight with a shield, sword, and shifting draconic form
Dragon Knight is a durable offlaner who turns a stable lane into stuns, tower pressure and ranged dragon attacks.
Pick Dragon Knight when your team needs a durable initiator, a lane anchor, and a hero who can pressure buildings safely in Dragon Form.
Avoid him when the lineup already lacks damage and expects the offlaner to solve every fight alone from the front.
Do not enter Dragon Form and walk straight at enemies without a follow up plan; save your range and movement for a purposeful target.

Each stage is an inventory snapshot: keep earlier items, use consumables, upgrade components, and replace small items as space runs out. Boots, defenses, and late slots can change with the draft.

Our picks, based on how the spells work together.

Frost Shield reduces attack damage against Dragon Knight while his stun helps Lich land Chain Frost in close fights.

Dragon Tail can hold a Maledict target in place while Witch Doctor follows with sustained damage.

Dragon Knight can start fights and occupy nearby enemies so Drow can attack from a safer distance.

Dragon Tail gives Zeus a predictable target for Lightning Bolt, while Zeus contributes damage from outside the brawl.

Their stuns can chain on a priority target, and Sven benefits from Dragon Knight creating a crowded fight.

Poison pressure and Viper Strike’s break threaten Dragon Knight’s passive durability and make disengaging difficult.

Corrosive Haze reduces armor, making repeated physical attacks more dangerous despite Dragon Blood.

Hex and Earth Spike can keep Dragon Knight controlled while enemies reposition around Dragon Form.

Counterspell can punish a targeted Dragon Tail, while Blink avoids a slow frontal approach.

Frost Shield protects Dragon Knight’s intended target while slows make it harder to maintain attack pressure.

Dragon Knight is a durable offlaner who turns a stable lane into stuns, tower pressure and ranged dragon attacks.
Dragon Knight is a melee Strength hero. Our recommended role is offlane.
Dragon Knight is an offlane strength frontliner who turns a stable lane into tower pressure and dependable initiation. His armor and regeneration support repeated trades, while Dragon Tail creates a clear opening. Choose him when allies need a durable stun source rather than a fragile damage dealer.
Start with cheap damage and healing, then use Breathe Fire after opponents commit to a last hit or deny. Trade near your creep wave, retreat during hostile spell bursts, and preserve mana for Dragon Tail. Your goal is to force enemy supports away before threatening their tower.
Enter fights in Elder Dragon Form when your team can follow a stun, not merely to absorb attention. Approach from a side angle, stun a priority target, then use Breathe Fire to weaken return attacks. Keep attacking from range, and reposition when enemies collapse on you.
Blink Dagger is the central purchase when your lineup needs immediate reach for Dragon Tail. Buy Black King Bar against disables that stop your entrance, or Pipe of Insight against concentrated magic damage. Assault Cuirass suits long physical fights, while Lotus Orb answers targeted control.

Cast Breathe Fire after an opponent commits toward a creep or ally, then trade while their attacks deal less damage. This is especially useful against a physical damage lane pair. Do not spend it blindly on the wave when an enemy engagement is likely.

Dragon Tail is strongest when an ally already has damage or control ready to follow it. Walk into range only after checking nearby support positions. Stunning the nearest target without follow up often leaves Dragon Knight exposed and wastes his chance to begin the fight.

Activate Elder Dragon Form before a planned objective fight or a prepared tower push, not after the fight has scattered. Its ranged attacks and evolving effects let Dragon Knight contribute without standing directly beside every enemy. Leave room to retreat after the initial stun.
| Detail | What it means in your game |
|---|---|
| Breathe Fire | Unleashes a breath of fire in front of Dragon Knight that burns enemies and reduces the damage their attacks deal. |
| Dragon Tail | Dragon Knight smites an enemy unit with his shield, stunning and damaging it and units close to it. |
| Wyrm's Wrath | The life blood of the Dragon improves Dragon Knight's abilities and items to have increased AoE and causes his attacks to deal additional magic damage to enemy units. |
Dragon Knight fits the offlane when a draft needs someone who can absorb pressure, threaten a stun, and stand near towers. He should create room for damage dealers by entering after allies are ready, rather than roaming alone for unsupported catches.
Blink Dagger is the practical first core when Dragon Knight must start fights. Follow with Black King Bar when disables prevent him from acting. Choose Pipe of Insight for heavy magic damage, or physical durability items when repeated enemy attacks are the larger problem.
Begin by treating mana as a fighting resource. Use Breathe Fire to improve a favorable trade, keep Dragon Tail ready when opponents step too close, and avoid chasing far beyond your creeps. Dragon Blood rewards patient exchanges, but it does not make reckless dives safe.
Elder Dragon Form gives Dragon Knight greater ability range, movement speed, and ranged attacks with cumulative evolving effects. The green form damages buildings over time, red adds splash attacks, and blue adds a movement and attack slow that pierces debuff immunity. It does not replace careful positioning.
