Dota 2 hero attributes: Strength, Agility, Intelligence and Universal

Every Dota 2 hero has Strength, Agility and Intelligence values. Their primary attribute determines which group they appear in; Universal is the fourth primary-attribute category. The STR, AGI and INT columns show starting values, not the amount gained each level.

Strength heroes 36

Strength helps support a hero’s health pool. These heroes include many front-line picks, but the icon alone does not tell you how much damage they can survive.

Agility heroes 35

Agility contributes to attack speed and armor. Many carries belong here, but their farming needs and useful item timings can be very different.

Intelligence heroes 34

Intelligence contributes to mana and spell use. This category contains both supports and cores. An Intelligence hero is not automatically a back-line healer.

Universal heroes 22

Universal heroes still have all three attributes. Compare their actual kit and values rather than treating Universal as a fourth lane or a difficulty rating.

A primary attribute is a useful way to browse, but a poor way to finish a draft. Your team may still need a stun, a front-line hero or a way to hit buildings. Check the abilities and your teammates’ picks before locking in another damage dealer.

How to read Dota 2 hero HP, attack range and damage

The table uses the level-one values shown in Valve’s website data. It does not simulate a finished build. Items, levels, facets, innate abilities and temporary effects can change what you see in an actual match. Compare the same starting point first, then check the hero’s specific mechanics.

Which Dota 2 heroes are easier for beginners?

Start with the green 1/3 difficulty group if you want fewer hero-specific controls to learn. Valve rates 55 heroes at complexity 1 in this roster. That does not make every one equally forgiving, and it does not make the match easy. You still need to learn the lane, map and timing of your spells.

How to choose a Dota 2 hero for your lane and role

1. Choose the job before the Dota 2 hero

   Carry, mid, offlane and support have different farm priorities. Tell your team which job you are filling. A hero’s attribute and attack range do not assign that job for you.

2. Check what your Dota 2 team is missing

   Look for reliable disables, damage and someone who can start a fight. A comfortable hero that fills a gap can be more useful than a complicated pick chosen only because someone called it meta.

3. Learn one Dota 2 hero plan at a time
