Fissure and Aftershock hold enemies near Luna so Eclipse strikes are harder to escape.

Earthshaker's chained stuns let Ursa keep attacking one target and build Fury Swipes.

Fissure can trap enemies near Shadow Fiend for close Shadowrazes or a dangerous Requiem.

Vengeful Spirit can swap a target into Earthshaker's stun range and amplify allied attack damage.

Warlock’s area slow and landing stun help hold enemy units together for Earthshaker’s follow-up.

Anti-Mage burns Earthshaker's small mana pool and Blinks away from Fissure before allies can follow.

Queen of Pain can Blink out of blocked terrain and punish Earthshaker's slow movement with repeated damage.

Viper Strike disables passives, removing Aftershock while its slows make Blink positioning difficult.

Meat Hook can pull Earthshaker from a safe angle, and Dismember stops him from casting follow-up spells.

Slardar can rush an exposed Earthshaker; Corrosive Haze tracks him and makes physical follow-up more dangerous.
These are useful ability interactions, not a statistical ranking or guaranteed matchups. Positioning, items, and cooldowns change the result. Hero links open a full guide when available, otherwise the directory.

Earthshaker is a durable support who traps routes, starts fights, and punishes crowded enemies.
Earthshaker is a melee Strength hero. Our recommended role is support.
Earthshaker is a disruptive support who turns narrow paths and crowded fights into openings. Fissure divides enemies, Aftershock rewards close spell casts, and Echo Slam punishes units standing together. He needs patient positioning because a missed initiation can isolate allies instead.
Begin with regeneration, wards, and mana rather than expensive boots. Stand beside your core, threaten Fissure when opponents approach, and watch the creep wave before casting. A ridge can protect a retreat, but it can also trap your ally away from safety.
Approach fights from fog or behind trees, then decide whether Fissure should catch, separate, or protect. Blink into clustered enemies only when allies can immediately follow. Cast another spell near victims to trigger Aftershock, then leave before retaliation overwhelms you.
Blink Dagger is the central purchase because it creates angles Fissure cannot provide alone. Arcane Boots and Magic Wand support early casting, while Force Staff or Glimmer Cape address danger. Buy defensive team items when allies need protection more than another personal tool. Aghanim’s Scepter adds the Enchant Totem leap as a separate upgrade; the baseline spell does not provide that movement. Secure the essential initiation item before planning around the upgrade.

Place Fissure behind a fleeing enemy instead of directly beneath them when allies already provide control. The ridge removes the easy escape path, forces an awkward turn, and lets your team attack without blocking its own route forward.

Cast Enchant Totem when enemies are already close enough for Aftershock, rather than saving it only for an attack. The bonus hit matters, but the nearby stun can stop a response and create space to reposition afterward.

Hold Echo Slam until enemies, creeps, summons, or illusions gather around the important targets. Real heroes create extra echoes, so a patient cast near several units is stronger than using it merely to finish one fleeing support.
| Detail | What it means in your game |
|---|---|
| Fissure | Creates a blocking ridge of stone while damaging and stunning enemies along its line. |
| Enchant Totem | Empowers the next attack with bonus damage and increased attack range. |
| Aftershock | Casting an ability damages and stuns nearby enemies. |
Earthshaker is usually a support who supplies initiation, counter-initiation, and terrain control. He thrives beside allies who can quickly damage targets held by Fissure and Aftershock, but he should avoid showing first when enemies can disable him.
Prioritize Blink Dagger after basic mana support because positioning determines Earthshaker's impact. Choose Force Staff, Glimmer Cape, Lotus Orb, or team auras according to the threats your allies face, rather than following a fixed luxury purchase.
Practice using Fissure to block enemy movement without sealing off your own allies. Stay near fog and trees before fights, carry wards and detection, and wait for a clear follow-up instead of blinking into every visible enemy.
Echo Slam sends shockwaves through enemies, and each enemy hit damages nearby units through echoes. Use it against clustered heroes, creeps, summons, or illusions, but remember scattered targets provide far less value and may not justify exposing yourself.
