Why pick Phantom Assassin?
Pick her when allies can hold targets in place and the enemy back line lacks reliable protection.

A masked killer stepping from Blur to turn one exposed enemy into a fast physical damage problem.
Phantom Assassin is a carry who uses sudden jumps and physical burst to punish exposed targets.
Pick her when allies can hold targets in place and the enemy back line lacks reliable protection.
Avoid her when the opposing lineup can repeatedly reveal, disable, or force her into durable frontliners.
The common mistake is using Phantom Strike as a one way entrance instead of keeping an ally or escape route available.

Our picks, based on how the spells work together.

Bloodlust adds movement and attack speed, helping Phantom Assassin stay on a chosen target.

Corrosive Haze reduces armor and reveals targets, amplifying her physical attacks and limiting evasive escapes.

Fissure and follow up stuns can isolate enemies long enough for her to commit.

Frost Shield reduces attack damage taken while its slow makes a retreating target easier to chase.

Paralyzing Cask and Maledict create a dangerous window against enemies she has jumped.

Berserker's Call forces nearby enemies to attack Axe while he gains armor, disrupting her target choice.

Viper Strike disables passives and slows both movement and attacks, directly spoiling her sustained commitment.

Hex and Earth Spike can stop her during the short window where she needs uninterrupted attacks.

Corrosive Haze supplies True Sight and armor reduction, making Blur less reliable and physical retaliation harsher.

Meat Hook can drag her from a flank, while Dismember disables her during a dangerous close range fight.

Phantom Assassin is a carry who uses sudden jumps and physical burst to punish exposed targets.
Phantom Assassin is a melee Agility hero. Our recommended role is carry.
Phantom Assassin is a carry who turns brief access into lethal physical attacks. She scouts with Stifling Dagger, chooses an enemy or ally with Phantom Strike, and uses Blur to reposition unseen. Her damage depends on committing when control and targets are separated, not frontlining.
In lane, use Stifling Dagger to secure a contested creep or punish an opponent who steps beyond protection. Do not Phantom Strike forward merely for harassment unless your support can follow. Keeping the spell for an ally also creates an exit when a trade becomes dangerous.
Wait outside immediate vision while allies force enemy control spells. Throw Stifling Dagger at a retreating target, then Phantom Strike after the target is isolated or disabled. Blur can disjoint incoming projectiles and hide you, but approaching heroes or towers reveal you, so plan the route.
Start with cheap last hit and recovery tools, then choose boots and a damage item that fit the game. Buy Black King Bar when disables prevent attacks. Add control, sustain, accuracy, or a dispel according to enemy defenses rather than treating every damage purchase as automatic.

Send Stifling Dagger through uncertain terrain before walking into it. The projectile grants vision around its travel and impact, which can expose a waiting enemy or confirm a safer route. Its slow also makes a discovered target easier for nearby allies to catch.

Phantom Strike can target a friendly unit, so identify an allied hero, creep, or other unit before entering a risky fight. After attacking an enemy, use that friendly target to leave the response. This prevents a successful jump from becoming an unnecessary trade.

Coup de Grace can grant Deadly Focus through attacks, and an attack with that buff consumes it for a critical hit. Watch for the buff before committing to an important target. Stifling Dagger has an extra chance to create it, making ranged pokes meaningful.
| Detail | What it means in your game |
|---|---|
| Stifling Dagger | Throws a slowing dagger that deals base physical damage plus part of her attack damage and applies attack effects. |
| Phantom Strike | Teleports to an allied or enemy unit. Targeting an enemy grants bonus attack speed; charges restore over time. |
| Immaterial | Grants evasion against attacks. Other evasion sources stack diminishingly. |
Phantom Assassin is usually played as a carry because her attack damage and critical threat improve with items. She prefers teammates who start fights or hold enemies still. Her job is not absorbing the first wave of spells; it is reaching an exposed target after danger is committed.
Desolator is a practical first damage choice when physical pressure can decide fights quickly. Black King Bar matters when disables stop that plan. Consider Monkey King Bar against evasion, Manta Style for a dispel, or Nullifier when defensive item effects let targets escape your attacks.
For beginners, focus on farming safely and entering fights late rather than chasing every dagger hit. Keep Phantom Strike available until you know where enemy control is located. Use Blur to travel through dangerous areas, but remember that nearby heroes and towers can reveal your position.
Coup de Grace gives attacks a chance to gain Deadly Focus. Your next attack with that buff consumes it and causes a critical hit, so use the moment on a valuable enemy when possible. Stifling Dagger has an added chance to cause Deadly Focus, but it does not guarantee one.
